Information related to wave taps used in electrical substation?
January 6th, 2009Any transmission line can be used for carrier communication provided there is no transformer etc in between. When a transmission line used for carrier communication also reaches a sub station, the line is taken through a wave trap which prevents the carrier signal further to the sub station, but easily permit power flow to the sub station. Wave trap is a tuned capacitor.
Immediately before wave trap, there is a coupling capacitor which tranmit only the signal without the high voltage, to the substation communication equipments. The signal can be used there and/or transmitted further by similar arrangement.
