Did I need to explain for a background check?

January 6th, 2009
  • When I was younger I had some temp jobs and I forgot to put it down for a background check because I only worked there a couple of weeks. I'm not sure if this is a problem because I heard that you need to stay at the job for 6 months before it will appear on a background check... Is this a problem?

  • background checks generally don't check work references, there are a few companies that provide the service but most don't. background checks use public records to find information such as criminal convictions, judgments, settlements, licenses and certifications based on your name, aliases, address, former addresses, social security number, state identification/drivers license and date of birth.

references are usually checked by the employer and they use the former employers you list on the application and or resume.

  • If you didn't put down a specific job on your resume, then the employer to which you are applying will not have any way of knowing where you have previously worked. There's no database that contains all previous jobs for everyone. So for you, this shouldn't be an issue, especially since you worked there when you were younger. Good luck on getting the job!
